Salt Therapy – Rejuvenating Benefits and Why it Works

Saltwater Home

Around 250 to 300 million years ago, where the Himalayan Mountains are today, an ancient ocean existed. When the ocean dried up, a sea salt bed was buried by the forces that created the mountain range. The pure salt deposits were embedded in the mountains and believed to have been protected by lava, sealed off from any pollution.

For many years, salt was used in hundreds of ancient Ayurvedic medicines. To this day, Himalayan dry salt is used as an ingredient in many medicines to treat high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and other diseases.  Humans learned that Negative ions from the salt purify the air offsetting positive ions from pollution in the environment. Salt levels affect us at a cellular level, energetically. It is naturally rejuvenating to the cells. It’s an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antihistamine.

Since then, we have found new ways to use salt water and salt air to benefit us physically and spiritually. Read about some of our favorite ways to practice salt therapy!

Here's how it works: State-of-the-art technology called a Halo Generator heats the salt then crushes it into very tiny micro-particles and diffuses pure salt into the air. While you relax and breathe the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory dry salt, the particles reach the deepest area of the lungs, bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli absorbing allergens toxins, and foreign substances and providing an anti-inflammatory and cleansing effect. Along with the health benefits, it also provides a state of relaxation and rejuvenation.

Salt therapy improves general wellness, respiratory issues, skin conditions, detoxification, athletic performance, and more. Halotherapy has detoxifying and calming effects that support the immune, nervous, and lymphatic systems. People often feel reduced stress levels, fewer headaches, increased energy, and better sleep.

The Saltwater Home team visited The Salt Works & Spa, a luxurious salt room in Biddeford, Maine. What an experience! Jen was so great in providing us with a calm and soothing experience. She informed us that there is just under 4 tons of salt in the room, plus the halo generator. We relaxed in the room for 45 minutes. After about 15 minutes, we could feel and taste the salt in the air. after 30 minutes, we started to notice clearer airways.

Salt Floating

The float spa industry has been growing since Dr. John developed the first float tank in 1954 at the National Institute of Mental Health. Float tank manufacturers began designing not only tanks but also float pods and float rooms. More and more people have been introduced to the concept of floating since then, because of the many benefits associated with it.

Here's how it works: The float space will contain roughly ten inches of skin temperature salt water. The person floating will close the door and float with their ears just under the water. The floater is free from all distractions and the controlled environment makes it challenging to distinguish where the body ends and water and air begin. Floating is an amazing tool for relaxation, physical recovery, pain management, and learning. The salty water makes floating effortless; it takes the pressure of gravity off muscles and joints, reduces stimulation of the senses, and provides the body with magnesium. It’s a great way to completely relax the body and mind.

When we spend less time resisting the forces of gravity we can spend more time thinking and healing. Floating can strengthen the immune system, relief pain, heal faster. It helps immensely with discomfort during pregnancy.
